Things Cats can Teach Us About Life

Bengal CatsWe love our cats and how much of an important part of our lives they become, but do you ever think about what our cats teach us about our everyday lives? No, we’re not talking about the importance of sleeping for 18 hours (though, that does sound nice) but how cats can help us in other ways to be more positive or compassionate in our interactions with those around us. Let’s explore a few of the ways that our cats make us better people.

Appreciate Kindness

Your cat has probably purred from being pet or fed, or returned the favor from time to time by nuzzling up with you when you’re cold or sick or bringing you a dead mouse. While the latter may not have been your favorite way for your cat to say thanks, it is one of the many ways that cats teach us to be thankful for the kindness we’re shown each day.

Know Your Surroundings

Cats have a tendency to always be on the lookout for anything around them, whether it’s a potential prey bird or rodent or just you sneaking around the corner trying to surprise them. In this way, cats teach us to always be mindful of everything around us because when we’re not we may be unpleasantly surprised!

Ignore Annoyances

How many times have you placed stuff on your cat or kept brushing your finger on his or her ear or whisker to get a response. And how many of those times has your cat just ignored you or walked off? There’s a lesson in that: If something is bothering or annoying you, don’t let it. Just ignore it or walk away.

Fish is Delish

Your cat probably loves seafood-flavored treats and food – especially if you’re making a tuna sandwich. Cat’s love fish, and we should too. Fish is full of healthy omega fatty acids and fish oils that have been shown to be good for our bodies. Maybe your cat doesn’t get all the fish he or she wants, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t!

Stretch

When your cat wakes up – or even sometimes while they’re asleep – do they sprawl out as far as possible, seeming to extend every possible muscle as far as they can go? The reason they do this is because it feels good to keep your muscles loose and limber, as you can probably relate when you stretch yourself. Keeping flexible and stretching before and after a workout feels good, relives tension and can help from causing sprains or other pains. Take a page from your cat’s book and stretch regularly.
