Things Cats can Teach Us About Life

Bengal CatsWe love our cats and how much of an important part of our lives they become, but do you ever think about what our cats teach us about our everyday lives? No, we’re not talking about the importance of sleeping for 18 hours (though, that does sound nice) but how cats can help us in other ways to be more positive or compassionate in our interactions with those around us. Let’s explore a few of the ways that our cats make us better people.

Appreciate Kindness

Your cat has probably purred from being pet or fed, or returned the favor from time to time by nuzzling up with you when you’re cold or sick or bringing you a dead mouse. While the latter may not have been your favorite way for your cat to say thanks, it is one of the many ways that cats teach us to be thankful for the kindness we’re shown each day.

Know Your Surroundings

Cats have a tendency to always be on the lookout for anything around them, whether it’s a potential prey bird or rodent or just you sneaking around the corner trying to surprise them. In this way, cats teach us to always be mindful of everything around us because when we’re not we may be unpleasantly surprised!

Ignore Annoyances

How many times have you placed stuff on your cat or kept brushing your finger on his or her ear or whisker to get a response. And how many of those times has your cat just ignored you or walked off? There’s a lesson in that: If something is bothering or annoying you, don’t let it. Just ignore it or walk away.

Fish is Delish

Your cat probably loves seafood-flavored treats and food – especially if you’re making a tuna sandwich. Cat’s love fish, and we should too. Fish is full of healthy omega fatty acids and fish oils that have been shown to be good for our bodies. Maybe your cat doesn’t get all the fish he or she wants, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t!

Stretch

When your cat wakes up – or even sometimes while they’re asleep – do they sprawl out as far as possible, seeming to extend every possible muscle as far as they can go? The reason they do this is because it feels good to keep your muscles loose and limber, as you can probably relate when you stretch yourself. Keeping flexible and stretching before and after a workout feels good, relives tension and can help from causing sprains or other pains. Take a page from your cat’s book and stretch regularly.

At Destiny Bengals, we’ve learned a lot about cats and from cats, and want to share those lessons with you with our adorable Bengal kittens available for adoption. Our kittens offer that uniquely distinctive Bengal look, which makes them appear exotic and wild while being friendly, playful and loving. Cats Are the Ideal Pet for Busy Homeowners

Bengal KittensIf you were thinking of getting a pet and the decision was between a dog or a cat, one of the main reasons to choose a cat is quite practical: cats can do their business in a litter box indoors. Dogs, on the other hand, must be “let outside” to theirs, which means, for the most part, someone has to be home to facilitate their toilet time. How many dog owners have you met who had to curtail their time with you because they had to rush home to let the dog out? It can be frustrating! Cats, on the other hand, don’t require as much attention, which is a huge advantage in our chaotic modern world where time is at a premium.

Cats make great pets for other reasons, too. They don’t require much room to live, so they adapt well to smaller homes and little apartments. Unlike dogs, you don’t have to “walk the cat” everyday. Besides feeding them and tending to their litter box, and perhaps some attention to grooming, cats are fairly easy to care for.

Just like kids want to surround themselves with plush, stuffed animals, people of all ages tend to love cats because they look and feel nice. They’re generally soft, pettable, warm and cute!

When they’re not resting in your lap with a hypnotic purr, cats can be quite entertaining as they chase after various objects and play with them. You’re likely to get a lot of laughs out of your pet cat’s various antics.

While dogs require lots and lots of attention, cats are more independent. They like attention– sure– but they don’t bother people for it as much as dogs do. Rather than loud barks, cats keep pretty quiet so they won’t bother you or your neighbors. And, best of all, cats are fastidiously clean creatures who are always grooming themselves and they don’t stink!

Finally, cats make great pets because they offer both companionship and unconditional love. When people let people down, who can they turn to? Their pets of course, who can make add a ray of sunshine to even the bleakest of days.

Reasons Cats are Better Than Dogs

If you’re like me, there is no question which is the better pet: a cat or dog. Ask me that question and cats win 100% of the time, afterall, I am a Bengal cat breeder. Breeding high quality kittens is what I do, it’s my specialty and my passion.

That being said, I understand why this is an “age old debate” and with some help from the infograph below, I am going to outline various reasons cats are better than dogs.

For starters, cats can take care of themselves for longer than 24 hours. While this may not seem important, it is. You don’t have to let out your cat every few hours or so, or take them for walks, which is often a pain in the winter. Another reason cats are better than dogs, is they can bathe themselves. While giving a cat a bath can be fun for the cat, it is not necessary to bathe them often, unlike dogs who can be quite smelly at times. For me, these are reasons enough for cats to win the debate, but I will continue to explore a few more reasons cats are the best pet.

Next on the list; cats are cheaper than dogs. In one year, cat owners spend less than $1,000, whereas dog owners spend at least $1,500. This approximation included expenses and one-time fees, such as spay and neurting, crates, and a collar/leash. Oh the things I could do with that extra $500!

Lastly, and most importantly, according to a study from the University of Bristol, cat owners are more educated or SMARTER than dog owners. Cat owners typically work longer hours and select more independent pets.
